
Section one: Egyptian political parties

Nation’s Future Party
August did not witness a lot of activity, whether on the service side with which the party is known or political activity as expected of the largest party in Egypt. The publication was limited to some educational meetings for its members, as well as a meeting to support President Sisi in the upcoming elections, and some service activities, as follows:
- On July 30, the party supreme committee held an expanded meeting to support President Sisi in the upcoming presidential elections.
- On August 1, the Party participated in the political forum held at the headquarters of the Homeland Defenders Party. In addition, the Coordination of Party Youth participated in the political forum.
- On August 2, the party Women Committee in Damietta held an educational symposium “Empowering Women in Leadership Positions.”
- The party’s secretariat in Daqahlia established a cooperative protocol with Mansoura University on August 4. The aim of that cooperation was to acquire political experience for young people.
- The party secretariat in Tamiya district in Fayoum organized on August 7 a mass conference to listen to their problems and demands for improving the governorate’s infrastructure.
- Regarding workers secretariat, the party secretariat in Qena organized, on August 13, the first training course for the workers and peasants secretariat in the governorate.
- As for Upper Egypt, the party organized an educational symposium on the law for ending the service of a drug-addicted worker in Assuit, on August 17.

Al-Dostour party
The Party was active during August in terms of its periodic meetings between the Supreme Committee and the members, in addition to its interaction during the national dialogue sessions and discussion of some societal issues such as “health – education – personal status law”:
- On July 31, the Supreme Committee of the Party held its periodic meeting, and the Committee decided to continue the project of the Constitution Academy, that is concerned with political education for party members.
- During the first week of August and through the national dialogue, the Party demanded the government to draft a new and comprehensive personal status law and submitted to the government a “productive society” initiative to address the problem of youth unemployment. The initiative offered solutions in the field of “microenterprises”.
- On August 7, the Party issued a statement expressing its “extreme annoyance” about the reported exclusion of teachers from appointment in the 30,000-teacher competition, with justifications such as obesity and overweight.
- On August 20, the Free Movement, in which the Party is participating, received news about a sudden summons to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the movement, writer and publisher Hisham Kassem, who was summoned as a “witness” in communication no. 8 cases dated August 3, 2023, for information crimes. However, he turned from a witness to an accused as soon as he appeared before the Chief Prosecutor of South Cairo in Case No. 5007 of 2023, Administrative Saida Zeinab.

Bread and Freedom Party (under establishment)
Only three activities in August were as follows:
- On July 28, the party issued a statement expressing its solidarity with Mr. Medhat Al Zahed, head of the Popular Alliance Party, in the face of smear and defamation campaigns.
- On August 2, the Party signed a petition calling for the release of political prisoners.
- August 16, the party issued a report on “the sale of the museum’s land located at the head of the Suez Canal” and the party expressed its deep sorrow at the validity of this news.

National Progressive Unionist Party
The Party continued to decline, despite being one of the largest opposition parties in the past. The activity was limited to a press statement by the party leader: “President Sisi is interfering for the second time in the national dialogue not to direct it, but to reassure the interlocutors and citizens that the dialogue is in order to reach a national consensus on issues that concern the citizens, in addition to amending some legislation.”

Egyptian Social Democratic Party
Many activities and events in August, including:
- On July 25, the party official Facebook page announced that politician Khaled Daoud and human rights lawyer Nabeeh Al-ganadi had officially joined the party.
- The Parliamentary Committee of the Party held a workshop on the legal framework for refugees and immigrants, on July 26.
- Representative Samir Al-Gazzar submitted a briefing request to the Minister of Planning and the Minister of Housing and Urban Communities, regarding the demolition and restoration decisions at the level of the Republic
- On August 2, the Party received the Swedish ambassador to talk about a number of important issues.
- On August 7, the head of the Party received a number of detainees released according to the lists prepared by the Civil Democratic Movement with the names of prisoners and those held in remand for pardon and release. The party had included the human rights lawyer; Youssef Mansour, economic researcher; Omar Al-Sheneti, and the political activist; Ahmed Hassanein Dino.
- On August 7, the Party received at its headquarters; Ms. Amy Lawrenson; New Zealand Ambassador and Ms. Nola O’Brien; Irish Ambassador to Egypt.
- August 14, the head of the Party, Faried Zahran, condemned the media attack on the initiative of the presidential team and commented: “What is happening makes it seem as if participation in the electoral process, whether by running for office or being elected, is a futile and useless process. Is this what is required?!”
- On August 16, Representative Samira El-Gazzar (a member of the House of Representatives representing the party), submitted a question. The question was to: the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Civil Aviation regarding the Zambia authorities announcing the seizure of a private plane coming from Cairo containing millions of dollars, gold and weapons.
- On August 23, Faried Zahran, head of the Party, demanded the immediate release of Hisham Kassem and that political matters be dealt with away from the courts and prison bars.

Justice Party
Although one of the newly established parties, it interacted with the issues of religious minorities, as well as children and women, in addition to participation in the national dialogue sessions, and among those activities.
- On August 1, the Party held a round table entitled “Towards a Just Law for Alternative Families”
- On August 2, the Party issued a press statement regarding “money transfers from Egyptians abroad,” and the party stated, “We reject, in detail, the obligation of Egyptians abroad to transfer the value of their salaries in foreign currency to Egypt.”
- On August 7, the Party issued an official statement expressing its appreciating the decision to release 33 prisoners in connection with political cases and to restore their freedom.
- August 15th, the Community Development Secretariat of the Party in Aswan, held the first exhibition of school supplies at reduced prices, to serve the people of the Karrour area in the governorate.
- On August 19, the Party appreciated the presidential pardon decision to release political activist Ahmed Doma, and a group of those imprisoned in political cases, and to grant them their freedom after a long stay behind bars.
- On August 21, the Party organized a symposium to discuss the political situation and the future of party, in the presence of Dr. Hossam Badrawi, Representative Abdel Moneim Imam, the party head, and a number of leaders of the Justice Party.

Conservative Party
During August, the party paid attention to the issues of social and insurance law, opened a discussion and searched for solutions to the crisis, in addition to regional issues, especially the issues of African countries:
- On July 30, the Workers and Peasants Secretariat of the party held a meeting with a large number of workers affected by the Social Insurance Law No. 148 of 2019 AD. The aim was learning about their problems and then presenting them in the national dialogue, before the convening of the Trade Unions and Civil Work Committee within the sessions of the national dialogue.
- On July 31, the party issued a statement rejecting the military coup in Niger, and stressed the need for dialogue between political parties.
- On August 2, Samir Al-Sheikh demanded during the National Dialogue to restructure the public debt and to negotiate a reduction in the state debt ratio.
- On August 13, the party participated in a symposium on the problem of debt and the dollar in the Egyptian Socialist Party.
- On August 16, the party denounced the Egyptian authorities extreme secrecy about the seizure of the Egyptian plane in Zambia, following the smuggling of gold bars, weapons, and bags containing smuggled foreign currency.
- August 19, the political bureau of the party met and expressed its support for putting forward a draft of guarantees for the freedom and integrity of the presidential elections, discussed with many political figures, with the aim of preserving the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that the results truly express the will of the people.

Dignity Party
August was the month of failures for the party, whether its leader meeting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, or its support for Kamal Abu Aitta:
- In early August, the head of the party, Mr. Hamdeen Sabahi, met with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. This visit was within the framework of an Arab tour to Lebanon and Syria. Sabahi expressed his solidarity with the Syrian government and people.
- On August 21, the party issued a statement in solidarity with the labor leader and former minister, Kamal Abu Aitta, following his judicial dispute with writer Hisham Kassem.

Socialist People’s Alliance Party
May be the most active during August through various activities, including:
- On July 27, the party issued a statement about the systematic defamation campaign against Mr. Medhat Al Zahed, head of the Party.
- On July 30, the Party organized its political salon, to discuss the electricity outage crisis, its causes, and the solution to that crisis.
- On August 10, the Party published pamphlets under the title “Social Upbringing in the Age of New Liberalism” .The pamphlet contained the reasons for youth reluctance to participate in politics.
- On August 14, the Party organized an online symposium entitled “Presidential Elections in the World and in Egypt”.
- On August 21, the Party organized an online symposium on “Removing the cemeteries from Bab al-Nasr to the Mamluk cemetery, then the tombs of Imam al-Shafi’i and Saida Nafessa.”

Egyptian Journalists Syndicate
- On August 1, the Head of the Syndicate met with the head of the Social Insurance Authority, to discuss several insurance files for journalists, the insurance office in the Syndicate was reopened again, and staff were trained to assist members in receiving any inquiries.
- On August 3, the Head of the Syndicate sent a letter to the Technical Committee for National Dialogue, again demanding legal measures at the level of freedoms, economic demands, and legislative amendments to protect journalists and provide all the required guarantees for a safe work environment.
- On August 8, the Economic Committee announced a training course in cooperation with the Public Mobilization and Statistics Authority. The training course on reading economic indicators that included “economic growth – inflation – unemployment – poverty – population growth – the local resource gap – public debt…” Registration began on August 10 for 10 days
- On August 9, the Syndicate announced its support for BBC journalists and Al-Wafd newspaper journalists because of the legitimate demands for their financial dues in salary increases.
The Syndicate also announced an increase in pensions by L.E. 500 – 3,000, disbursed from the previous July, and an increase in the minimum salaries in press institutions by L.E. 3,000.
- On August 15, the syndicate referred the journalist, Yasser Barakat, editor-in-chief of Al-Mugaz newspaper, to the Disciplinary Committee, on the grounds of complaints submitted by colleagues working at the newspaper after they were arbitrarily dismissed in violation of the law, their insurance files were closed, and their insurance screens were blackened.
- At the dawn of August 19, a security force stormed the home of journalist Karim Asaad, a member of the editorial team of the “Matsda2sh” platform, assaulted his wife, and intimidated their son, taking him to an unknown location. After being detained for two days, Karim Asaad was released on August 20th, after Khaled Al-Balshi contacted the authorities.
- The Syndicate Profession Development and Training Committee also announced the organization of Social media management skills course (Facebook).
- On August 20, a security force raided the house of journalist Saad Khattab in Nasr City, and he was taken to an unknown destination. On August 23, he was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution pending case 2063 of 2023 Supreme State Security on charges of publishing and broadcasting false news. The prosecution decided to detain him for 15 days as a precaution for investigations. .
- On August 21, the journalists working in the BBC Cairo office announced that they would enter their third strike in a row with the support and solidarity of the Syndicate for a period of 10 consecutive days. The crisis began last June due to low salaries and failure to implement promises to increase them by London administration. On August 24, journalists and workers in the office published statement, on the third day of their strike, against the discriminatory policy pursued by the administration against them.
- Egyptian lawyers Syndicate
- On July 26, the head of the syndicate assigned a committee of members of the council to discuss the housing crisis for lawyers in October and put forward proposals to solve the crisis.
- On August 6, the syndicate investigations revealed the involvement of a member of the Syndicate Council and one of the employees in personnel affairs, in appointing a female employee for 4 years, with a salary of L.E. 212,000, without assigning her any work within the Syndicate.
- The sub-syndicate in Munufia (as in the head in Munufia Maher Hamouda) signed a cooperation protocol with Homeland Defenders Party, the Munufia Municipality, and spreading political awareness to advance political work.
- On August 9, the Syndicate announced the opening of registration to subscribe to the Court of Cassation website, with an annual subscription of L.E. 1,500 for lawyers.
- On August 16, Menia Criminal Court, Circuit-II postponed the case of three Menia lawyers accused of incitement to murder, to Oct 2, until discussing the prosecution witnesses, hearing the defense witnesses, and discussing the forensic doctor, with the release of the three lawyers.
- On August 21, Cairo Economic Felonies, Chamber-II in case 345 of 2023 economic misdemeanors, issued a ruling to 6 months in prison for lawyer Mortada Mansour, with enforcement, and a fine of L.E. 20,000 on charges of insulting and slandering a public servant.
- On August 22, Mr. Abdel Halim Allam, the head of the syndicate, inaugurated an office for the reservation of railway train tickets for the destinations for lawyers.

Egyptian Medical Syndicate (EMS)
- On August 5, the Public Prosecution decided to refer five defendants to trial, accused of assaulting Dr. Mr. Abdel-Khalek El-Darky, Professor of Cardiology, Benha University, to trial on Saturday, September 23.
- On August 16, Dr. Hussein Khairy, Head of EMS, announced the opening the Doctors Rest House in Helwan, and transforming the place from a storeroom into a hotel restroom, suitable for doctors, with 11 beds.
- On August 21, the East Cairo Military Criminal Court issued a life sentence against officer, a doctor in the armed forces, Ziyad Hossam El-Din, on charges of killing the pharmacist, Basma Ali, in Case No. 170 of 2023 East Cairo Military Crimes, known in the media as the “Madinaty Incident.”

The Applied Arts Designers Syndicate
- On July 26, the Syndicate announced the documents and conditions for registration for the first time, for registration in the Syndicate list.
- On August 20, the syndicate announced an offer from Al-Ahly Club membership of the branches and discounts in the value for members and their families.

Egyptian Engineers Syndicate EES
- On August 16, EES announced strict conditions and restrictions for registration for holders of technical diplomas, to prevent the registration of impersonators or graduates of unaccredited institutes, and to obtain a certificate of education quality and accreditation in accordance with the standards and controls set by the Authority.
- On August 20, EES Council decided to increase the pensions by L.E. 150, starting July 2023, provided that the disbursement takes place retroactively.

Egyptian Teachers Syndicate
The Syndicate announced the launch of an electronic application called “My Syndicate”, for the pensioners, introducing them to the dates of disbursement of payments, and displaying the syndicate services and how to obtain them.

Acting Professions Syndicate
- On August 1, Ismail Farghaly established the first YouTube channel for the deaf, mute, and someone with difficulty hearing.

Physical Therapists Syndicate
- On August 2, the Syndicate announced its campaign against impersonators of its members in order to preserve the health of citizens, through the Profession Intruders Committee, formed in all sub-unions in the governorates. The committee monitored all fake and non-medical centers, unqualified practitioners of medical professions, as the Syndicate monitored about 340 centers for intruders to their profession, and took the necessary measures to close it.

Musical Professions Syndicate
- On August 21, the Syndicate announced the results of the investigations with festivals singer Ahmed Khaled, known as “Coriander”, in addition to the Syndicate’s decision in this regard, which included suspending him from work, revoking his license, and informing the Public Prosecution of the charge of releasing a new video clip titled “on my divorce, all of them lie.” Because the song contains words that insult symbols.

Nurses Syndicate
On July 26, the Head Syndicate warned against joining private institutes of which certificates are not accredited and will not enable them to register in the Nursing Syndicate.

General Union of Workers in the Engineering, Metallurgical and Electrical Industries
- On August 22, 250 retired iron and steel workers gathered in Helwan for the second time after the first on July 5. This is to pay the financial dues from the Fund, which the company had promised to resolve the crisis to pay those dues from the date of their retirement on May 1, 2018. The company requested the police to break up the gathering in front of the company, asking them to authorize two to meet the officials and the minister at the headquarters of the Ministry of Business Sector.

General Union of Workers in Hygiene and Beautification Authority
- On August 21, workers and drivers of the Cleaning Authority in Aswan went on strike and gathered in front of the General Office of Aswan Governorate, demanding the departure of the Egyptian Association and finding out the reasons for deductions from wages. The Secretary General of the governorate promised to resolve this crisis within 48 hours.
- On August 6, a number of independent labor organizations, such as the Solidarity Trade Union Committee for Workers in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the General Union for Real Estate Tax Workers, and the Trade Union Committee of Nile Line Group, had a meeting to establish a trade union between them under the name of the Egyptian Federation of Trade Unions.

General Union for Workers in Construction, Wood and Building Materials
- On August 14, the Heliopolis Labor Office examined the complaints of 17 workers at “Roya” Contracting Company, affiliated with the “Pioneer” company. The workers had submitted complaints to the Council of Ministers, mentioning they were affected by the decisions by company management decisions to stop paying the annual increase decided for workers, as well as stopping the payment of annual profits. In addition to withdrawing the medical insurance cards from the workers, and the company refusal to pay the cost of living bonus since 2018.

General Union of Adult Education Workers
- On August 14, the head Union threatened to file a complaint to the National Security Agency, against members of the union committee, fabricating accusations against them and demanding their imprisonment. That was in order to follow up on a set of demands that the union had submitted to the authority last February, and it was agreed to postpone its discussion to June, which did not happen on the part of the Authority. As soon as the meeting began and the union members asked about the fate of their demands, the Head of the Authority exploded and started threatening to report them to the National Security Agency to arrest them and take them to prison in the event that their demands were repeated again. It is worth mentioning that their demands were increasing the reward for exams and increasing the field and evening follow-up allowances, similar to the employees of the Ministry of Education.

General Union of Public Transport Authority Workers
- On August 5, the Cairo Terrorism Criminal Court, in Badr Prison Complex, decided to renew the detention of worker Mohamed Hashem for 45 days pending case No. 184 of 2023 State Security.

General Union of Workers of the Egyptian Ambulance Authority
- On August 13, the Egyptian Ambulance Authority announced the start of its first awareness activities on dealing with drowning cases and how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation for beachgoers and rescue officials.
- On August 18, the head of the Egyptian Ambulance Authority directed a bonus to all workers in North Sinai, during his visit to emergency points and meeting with a group of emergency teams.
- The visit also included inspecting two plots of land belonging to the Egyptian Ambulance Authority in Arish, to select the most appropriate one for the establishment of the new regional building for the Ambulance Authority in the governorate, and allocating an amount of L.E. 70 million for the project to be qualified to serve as an administrative headquarters to serve the people of the governorate.
Section 3: Human Rights Organizations and Defenders

Human Rights Organizations most important activities and publications
- The National Council for Human Rights (NCHR)
- On July 29, NCHR, in cooperation with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, held a conference entitled “National Human Rights Institutions Established in Accordance with the Paris Principles” Roles, Challenges, Visions and Aspirations” and announced the handover of the presidency of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions to NCHR in Egypt.
- On August 1, Social Rights Committee of NCHR held an expert meeting under the title “Urban Development Policies in Existing Cities…Towards Enhancing Guarantees of Housing and Property Rights”, with the participation of government officials, representatives of UN and international bodies, civil society organizations, academics, members and NCHR researchers.
- On August 15, a number of NCHR members, headed by Ambassador Moushira Khattab, paid a comprehensive inspection visit to the Tenth of Ramadan Prison, during which Khattab announced that Egypt prisons are like 7-star hotels!!.
- On the same date, the Economic Committee of NCHR held a workshop under the title (Egyptian Farmer’s Rights between Reality and Hope) at the Council’s headquarters.
- Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE)

- On June 26, AFTE issued a research paper entitled “Imprisonment and Prosecution… The Inheritance of Families and Relatives of Egyptian Dissidents Abroad and Domestic.” The paper dealt with cases of arrest of relatives and families of dissidents, whether inside or outside Egypt.
- On August 16, AFTE issued a statement calling for the release of activist Marwa Arafa, coinciding with the activist’s 4th birthday inside Al-Qanater Women’s Prison.
- On August 22, AFTE issued a report entitled “Continuous Targeting on a Political Background” about what Dr. Manar Tantawi was subjected to in terms of harassment and obstacles within her workplace, as she is the wife of a former political prisoner, journalist Hisham Gaafar.
- On August 24, AFTE issued a statement condemning the decision of the Supreme State Security Prosecution to imprison the father of journalist and activist Ahmed Gamal Ziada, after arresting him from the Nahya neighborhood in Giza, and accusing him of joining a terrorist group and publishing false news.
- Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR)

- On August 14, 2023, EIPR issued a statement entitled “Blurring the facts…from the official papers of the dispersal of the Rabaa sit-in: in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of the dispersal of the Brotherhood sit-in in Rabaa al-Adawiya Square.”
- On August 18, EIPR published on its Facebook page an infographic about the number of death sentences issued during July 2023.
- On August 22, EIPR published, in conjunction with the International Day for Victims of Violence on Religious Basis, on its Facebook page, a map of religious freedoms within Egypt, to commemorate the victims of violence on the basis of religion and belief.
- On August 23, EIPR published a statement calling for the immediate release of Hisham Kassem . Hisham Kassem is a press publisher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Free Liberal Movement, and former President of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights. The statement also condemned the Public Prosecution decision to refer him to the Economic Court on the grounds of accusing him of libel and defamation, and assaulting a public employee, intentionally disturbing others, and misusing social media platforms.
- On August 24, EIPR published a statement of solidarity with the family of the activist and journalist/ Ahmed Gamal Ziada, condemning the abuse against them following the Supreme State Security Prosecution decision to detain the journalist’s father for 15 days on charges of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news, and calling for his release.
- Regional Center for Rights and Liberties
- On August 6, the center published a research paper entitled “Threads”.. How journalists benefit from the “Musk” and “Mark” wrestling.
- Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF)
- On July 31, ECRF issued a report entitled “The First Years of School… Children in Basic Education between Reality and Law”…about education systems parallel to the government system.
- On August 6, ECRF issued a report entitled “Restricting the Behavior of Individuals on the Internet,” which highlights “defamation and nuisance offenses as legal tools for prosecuting human rights defenders for victims of sexual violence and harassment.”
- On August 10, ECRF “Stop Enforced Disappearance” initiative issued a statement calling for the disclosure of the whereabouts of the activist/ Ahmed Hamdy Al-Sayed, known as Ahmed Jeeka, after hiding him for 57 days.
- On August 19, ECRF “Save Freedom of Opinion” initiative published a statement condemning attempts to hack the page of the “Don’t Give Charity” initiative, and demanding not attacking its team.
- On August 20, ECRF “Save Freedom of Opinion” initiative published a statement condemning the arrest of Karim Asaad, a journalist on the “Mtsada2sh” platform, and calling for disclosing his whereabouts and his immediate release.
- On August 24, ECRF “Save Freedom of Opinion” initiative published a statement condemning the arrest of the father of the activist and journalist/ Ahmed Gamal Ziada, his disappearance for one day, and his appearance as an accused pending a state security case and his remand detention.
- El Nadim Center For Management & Rehabilitation of victims of violence
- On August 23, El Nadim published a statement condemning the arrest of the father of the journalist/ Ahmed Gamal Ziadeh from Nahya neighborhood in Giza.
- Egyptian Front for Human Rights “abroad”
- On July 26, the Front published a statement calling on the Medical Center in Badr Prison, to immediately stop intransigence in providing the immediate and due medical care to detainee Mohamed Osam Abdelaziz Ali Rashid, who needs urgent surgical intervention to save his life.
- On July 27, 2023, the Front published the Observatory of Detention Conditions at the headquarters of the National Security Sector in Mansoura, Dakahlia. The Observatory documented the circumstances of detention, living conditions, and health care, and highlighted the most prominent patterns of violations there, especially torture and ill-treatment, and conducting investigations without a judicial warrant and in the absence of lawyers.
- On August 5, the Front published a statement expressing its concern about the possibility of the Bahraini authorities deporting two Egyptian dissidents residing on its territory to Egypt, namely, Mr. Muhammad Mahmoud Akez and Muhammad Al-Iraqi Saad Hassanein, after their arrest on August 2, on grounds sentencing them in cases of political background.
- On August 9, the Front published the Observatory of Detention Conditions at the National Security Headquarters in Shebin al-Koum, in the Security Directorate on the fourth floor, which documented the circumstances of detention and living conditions, and highlighted the most prominent patterns of violations there, especially torture and ill-treatment.
- On August 24, the Front issued a report entitled “A noticeable contradiction despite the continuity” to monitor the situation of the death penalty in Egypt during the first half of 2023. The report dealt with the continuation of the criminal and cassation courts and the Egyptian authorities in issuing, upholding and executing death sentences against defendants in criminal cases and on a political background. .
- Technology and Law Community – Masaar

- On July 30, Masaar published a research paper entitled Updating the Compilation of Communications and Information Technology Laws in Egypt.
- On August 7, Masaar published a research paper entitled Open Government: Empowering Society Through Transparency and Participation.

- On August 22, ECESR published a statement of solidarity with the strike of the workers at the BBC office in Cairo, calling for the need to stop the arbitrary and discriminatory measures against the workers, in addition to achieving the principles of justice and material and moral equality for them.

- On August 16, the network published a statement calling on the Egyptian Public Prosecutor to reveal the investigations that came out of the Public Prosecution Office to clarify the truth about the accident at the National Security headquarters in Arish, and to hold the Ministry of Interior responsible for the lives of dozens of detainees inside it.
- On August 23, the network published a statement condemning the decision of the Supreme State Security Prosecution to imprison the father of journalist and activist Ahmed Gamal Ziada after his arrest from the village of Nahia in Giza.

- On August 8, a number of human rights organizations issued a joint statement to condemn the Tenth of Ramadan Institute’s insistence on targeting academic Manar Tantawi.

Detention renewal:
- On July 30, Circuit-III of Terrorism in Cairo Criminal Court in Badr Prison renewed the detention of activist Sherif El-Rouby for 45 days in Case No. 1634 of 2022 State Security.
- On July 31, Circuit-I of Terrorism in Cairo Criminal Court in Badr Prison renewed the detention of activist Nermin Hussein for 45 days in Case No. 65 of 2021 State Security.
- On August 8, the Supreme State Security Prosecution renewed the detention of the former student leader and activist Moaz Al-Sharqawi for 15 days pending Case No. 540 of 2023 State Security.
- On August 12, Circuit-II of Terrorism in Cairo Criminal Court in Badr Prison renewed the detention of human rights lawyer El Said Khalaf for a period of 45 days in Case No. 238 of 2021 State Security.
- On August 13, Circuit-II of Terrorism in Cairo Criminal Court in Badr Prison renewed the detention of activist Marwa Arafa for 45 days in Case No. 570 of 2020, Supreme State Security.

Release:
- On August 7, the Supreme State Security Prosecution issued a decision to release human rights lawyer Youssef Mansour with guarantee of his residence in Case No. 330 of 2022 Supreme State Security.
- On August 19, the President of the Republic, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, issued a decree pardoning the remainder of the sentence imposed on the activist Ahmed Doma in the case known in the media as the Case of the Cabinet Events.

Victories:
- On August 21, the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression obtained an acquittal of Dr. Manar Tantawi from the Disciplinary Council of the faculty members of the Higher Institute of Technology in the Tenth of Ramadan. The acquittal was of the charges brought against her in the disciplinary case No. 20 of 2023 of impersonating the head of the mechanical engineering department at the institute after she had agreed to the license of the laboratory secretary who worked under her supervision.
