Legal Comment

Supreme State Security Prosecution releases 84 citizens who were in pretrial detention pending investigations by the Supreme State Security Prosecution, and at the same time investigated 32 citizens, including journalist Khaled Mamdouh who reappeared from enforced disappearance for 6 days and cartoonist Ashraf Omar after disappearing for 2 days and then imprisoning them on repeated charges. This all happened a few hours before the beginning of the National Dialogue sessions, which included on its agenda a discussion of pretrial detention and its alternatives.

Security forces in Sharqia suspended the implementation of release decisions and rulings issued in favor of citizens and rotated them again on new cases bearing the same charges, after the National Security Sector detained and forcibly disappeared them for varying periods. This establishes a hateful phenomenon in the judiciary, which is the phenomenon of rotating citizens, and proves to everyone that freedom of citizens is in the hands of the National Security Sector alone.
