Legal Comment
A week after the decision to release his colleagues, East Tanta Total Prosecution decided to release the unionist and worker at the Samanoud Wabriyat Company, Hisham Al-Banna. This was to correct the situation of the security authorities arresting the workers based on them organizing a strike to demand the implementation of the minimum wage of L.E.6, 000 for the benefit of the workers of the company. This is in accordance with the decision of the Minister of Planning No. 27 of 2024 on 7 April regarding the minimum wage in private sector companies. Knowing that striking is an inherent constitutional right under Article 15 of the Constitution of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as the International Covenant on Economic and Social Rights and Labor Law No. 12 of 2003 amended by Law No. 180 of 2008.
Security forces stormed the conference of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party and arrested three young men. This comes as a serious blow and violation of the freedom of political work and peaceful expression in Egypt, as well as raises questions about the commitment and seriousness of the authorities in respecting political pluralism, which as an essential pillar of any political system that respects human rights and the rule of law.
