Legal Comment
“I know I will not be released. My will to you, Mr. Khaled, all the professors and lawyers present, as well as the prosecution, is that in the event of my death. Shroud me in prison clothes so that I can argue with everyone who has wronged me and my country.”
These are the words that Engineer Yahya Hussein Abdel Hadi said during the session to renew his pretrial detention before the Supreme State Security Prosecution. Engineer Yahiya’s message reflects a deep feeling of injustice and oppression that he suffers from, as well as carries a clear message that the injustice he is being subjected to is not only personal, but is also injustice towards the country.
The visit of members of the Public Prosecution to the New Valley Prison is an attempt to improve the general image of detention institutions, more than to improve the condition of prisoners or respect the rule of law. Because it is done for cosmetic purposes without addressing the real problems.
It is a comprehensive response to all complaints and reports, without focusing on specific visits without seriously dealing with the deteriorating conditions in the rest of the prisons.
