Legal Comment

The expansion of arrest campaigns against citizens in Sharqia raises serious concerns about the rule of law. Such campaigns, which are carried out on a large scale and without real charges, perpetuate a climate of fear and undermine confidence in security and judicial institutions.

The decision to renew the detention of economic researcher Abdel Khaleq Farouk, while the Public Prosecution ignored his complaint about violations by a National Security officer inside the 10th of Ramadan Prison, raises serious concerns about the lack of accountability within the Ministry of Interior. Farouk, known for his critical research that sheds light on wrong economic policies, demands the Public Prosecution, as the body responsible for ensuring justice, must seriously consider his complaints, including an independent investigation into these allegations, to ensure that fundamental rights are protected.
