Legal Comment
The Administrative Court decided to reconsider the appeal filed by Gamila Ismail, head of the Constitution Party, against the Political Parties Committee’s decision to vacate the position of Constitution Party leader.
This decision, underscoring the need to verify the legality of administrative decisions, raises fundamental questions about the extent to which it respects the independence of parties in managing their internal affairs.
From another perspective, administrative interference in the affairs of parties, especially opposition parties, constitutes a violation of the guarantees of freedom of association and political pluralism stipulated in the Egyptian Constitution and international human rights conventions.
The Supreme State Security Prosecution’s decision to release a number of citizens was limited to 47, disappointing the hopes and desires of thousands of families for the release of their relatives, who have been imprisoned without credible evidence.
As is the custom every year, hundreds or thousands of innocent people are usually released on the occasion of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, indicating a growing disregard for citizens’ freedoms and rights.
