Legal Comment

Cairo Criminal Court, Terrorism Chamber at Badr Prison renewed the detention of activist Sherif El-Rouby in Case No. 1634 of 2022, Supreme State Security, for the second time, without allowing him to appear before the competent judge, either in person or via a remote renewal screen.

This precedent confirms a clear flaw in fair trial guarantees, as well as constitutes a clear violation of the rights of both the accused and the defense, as it constitutes a violation of the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code, which requires the accused to be able to defend himself and respond to the charges against him.
