Monday, June 19, 2023<\/span><\/p>\n

1. The Terrorism Department of the <\/span>Zagazig<\/span> Misdemeanor Court of Appeal decided to cancel the prison sentence issued against 8 citizens from the <\/span>Zagazig<\/span> Center and acquitted them on the grounds of accusing them of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements. It also decided to cancel the prison sentence issued against 3 citizens from <\/span>Belbeis<\/span> Center and to acquit them <\/span>from<\/span> accusation of publishing and broadcasting false news and statements.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. The Terrorism Department in the <\/span>Belbeis<\/span> Misdemeanor Court <\/span>acquitted 13 citizens and punished two others with one year in prison and a fine of 500 pounds on the grounds of accusing them of promoting the purposes of a terrorist group and spreading false news and statements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Tuesday 20 June<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Terrorism Department of the <\/span>Hihy<\/span>a<\/span> Misdemeanor Court in Al <\/span>Shark<\/span>ia<\/span> Governorate sentenced three citizens to three months in prison, on the grounds that they were accused of publishing false news and statements.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Public Prosecution published a statement on its official Facebook page about holding a regional forum on the role of digital evidence in combating and <\/span>investigating crimes related to illegal immigration, during the period from 19 to 21 June in <\/span>Hurghada<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

8- Prison news<\/span><\/p>\n

On June 8, the Minister of the Interior issued a decision to establish 6 new detention centers in May 15th City, and Decree No. 1042 of 2023 was issued to establish 6 public \u201c<\/span>reform<\/span> and rehabilitation\u201d centers, named: May 15th <\/span>Reform<\/span> and Rehabilitation Center (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), and the decision was published in the Official Gazette on June 9<\/span><\/p>\n

Legal Comment<\/span><\/p>\n

– In a clear example of the arbitrary use of pretrial detention and its use as a tool to harass opponents, the First Chamber of Terrorism in the Cairo Criminal Court issued a decision to continue the detention of the activist and former spokesperson for the April 6 Youth Movement – the Democratic Front, <\/span>Sherif<\/span> El-<\/span>Rouby<\/span>, along with hundreds of citizens, for a period of 45 days pending terrorism cases. “Al-<\/span>R<\/span>o<\/span>uby<\/span>” during his detention renewal session through “video conference” technology in <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Case No. 1634 of 2022, Supreme State Security, appeared<\/span> in poor health, which prompted the court to quickly issue a decision to bring him to Abu <\/span>Zaabal<\/span> Prison Hospital instead of issuing a decision to release h<\/span>im despite the availability of a<\/span>ll the conditions for his release.<\/span><\/p>\n
