Legal Comment

The adjourning of the trial of lawyer Montasser El-Zayat for sentencing, following a complaint by a judge accusing him of defamation and slander via Facebook, raises serious concerns about the scope of criminal prosecutions for expressing opinions, especially when it concerns a public matter, as the video in question clearly reveals its lack of any defamatory language.
