Judge/Ezzat Hafez Al-Akly, Head of the 18^th Circuit, Ain Shams Criminal Court, convened at the North Cairo Court in Abbassia, clashed with lawyers Tariq Khater and Ahmed Abdel Latif by virtue of a special power of attorney

issued by a journalist to appear in Press Misdemeanor Case No. 11710 of 2026, Ain Shams Misdemeanors, filed by the Minister of Education, to appear before the circuit, and his insistence on issuing a default judgment against the journalist

which the lawyers rejected. The lawyers have emphasized that the law permits appearance before the Criminal Court by virtue of a special power of attorney, and if the court deems the defendant’s presence necessary, it postpones the proceedings for his appearance and does not issue a judgment, considering that the procedural form is incomplete.

This has prompted the member of the right of the circuit, Judge Al-Saeed Ahmed Abdo, to intervene and resolve the matter in consultation with the head of the court. and conclude by issuing a decision to postpone for the journalist’s appearance in person.

Other cases before him also witnessed his clash with the lawyers appearing before him. In the court sessions, he addressed the lawyers, saying, “I want the argument to be in one and a half words,” and refused to comply with the lawyers’ requests and insisted on proceeding with the argument.

Lawyer Ahmed Haggag, known as “The Godfather,” announced during a training seminar organized by lawyer Misbah Al-Qurba that lawyers have the right to use false witnesses to mitigate sentences in cases and secure a legal advantage for their clients. He reiterated this in televised statements on the “Code” program broadcast on Al-Shams satellite channel.

The following day, Mohamed Issa, head of the legal department at the Lawyers Syndicate, announced on his Facebook page that lawyer Ahmed Haggag had been referred for investigation following the circulation of a video clip containing statements that sparked widespread controversy among lawyers and on social media platforms.

The controversy stemmed from statements he made regarding the use of false witnesses in the defense of defendants. Haggag was scheduled to appear for questioning on Wednesday, August 19th.
