“Peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice.”
Dfater Masr is a group of legal researchers who believe in the rule of law and the values of democracy and human rights.
Therefore, Dfater Masr seeks to improve and develop the legal critical structure to build a democratic state and raise awareness of it, by means of discussing procedures, legislation and judicial rulings, and whether they violate or support the values of the rule of law, the constitution or human rights values.
These critical views are shared, not only with decision makers, but with various actors and those concerned with public affairs, including political and trade union groups, as well as civil society organizations and institutions.
Dfater Masr mainly focuses on the themes of “judiciary, media, prisons, civil society”, and issues critical and evaluative papers on the relevant procedures “laws, rulings, decisions, practices”, which are then discussed, analyzed, and deviations or developments are pointed out.
Besides commenting and highlighting violations or positive developments, Dfater Masr documents these legal and judicial procedures, as part of the Egyptian people’s memory and its history in this era.
